Join Hollins University Professor of Film Studies, Matt Marshall as he breaks down the 1927 film Sunrise, from a shot-by-shot perspective. The film will not actually be screened, or even shown in its entirety, but will instead be used as a teaching tool for Marshall to use for this discussion. 

Plot - A married farmer falls under the spell of a slatternly woman from the city, who tries to convince him to drown his wife.

 

Matt Marshall is a Film Lecturer, screenwriter and film composer. He has taught courses on film criticism and history at the University of Virginia and is currently a visiting assistant professor of film at Hollins University. Marshall has been composing and performing live music accompaniment to classic silent films for over 14 years and has recorded soundtracks for the British Edition of Charlie Chaplin's The Kid as well as George Melies' Conquest of the Pole.
