WED 9/30, 6:00 pm - Doors | 7:00 pm - Showtime

Location:  Main Theatre, Film Screening with Live Music Soundtrack

General Admission: $21.10 + $3 fee

Nosferatu has been The Invincible Czars' most popular silent film score since it debuted in 2015. The show is ear and eye candy for fans of horror movies from all eras.

Nosferatu is most certainly the most important horror film of the silent era and one of the first vampire movies. Directed by F. W. Murnau and released in 1922, it's an unauthorized adaptation of Bram Stoker's novel "Dracula." The film follows Thomas Hutter as he journeys to Transylvania to sell property to the eerie Count Orlok, a vampire played by Max Schreck. Orlok travels to Germany, terrorizing the village of Wisborg and preying on its inhabitants. His obsession with Thomas' wife, young Ellen Hutter, leads to a climactic showdown as she attempts to thwart his evil plans.

The film is celebrated for its atmospheric cinematography, haunting performances, and enduring influence on the horror genre. Many consider it to be the pinnacle of German Expressionist film and it has been remade by directors Werner Herzog and Robert Eggers. (Count Orlok even shows up in an episode of Spongebob Squarepants!) Fans, theaters and media have praised The Invincible Czars' soundtrack for making the century-old movie “actually scary” for modern day audiences.

Caitlin Krisko & The Broadcast deliver gritty rock and roll soaked in deep roots and blues influences, led by the commanding vocals of powerhouse frontwoman Caitlin Krisko. Since their rebrand in 2021, the band has built a fiercely loyal following across the US and UK, earning critical acclaim and major festival slots for their electrifying, emotionally charged performances. Rolling Stone calls Krisko “one of the best-kept vocal secrets of the Southeast,” and in 2024, the band took a bold creative leap with their self-produced EP Blueprints, a soulful, anthemic collection that landed playlist placements, radio support, and praise for its raw vulnerability.

With past support slots for legends like Mavis Staples, Marcus King, Blackberry Smoke, Samantha Fish, Robert Randolph, and Margo Price, the band continues to rise. Krisko continues her new role as host of the storied Buffalo Mountain Jam at FloydFest, solidifying her as a staple of the modern roots rock scene.

A look at the life and ideas of Pauli Murray, a non-binary Black lawyer, activist and poet who influenced both Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Thurgood Marshall.

Director: Julie Cohen, Betsy West
Writer: Talleah Bridges McMahon, Julie Cohen, Cinque Northern
Stars: Patricia Bell-Scott, Pauli Murray, Dolores Chandler

Volunteer Community Programmer:

Toya Jones

“I chose this documentary because Murray’s experience resonates with many different aspects of the LGBTQ community. Pauli Murray was same-gender loving and had same-gender loving relationships.

Her writings indicated that she experienced gender dysphoria, which many transgender and nonbinary people also experience. Pauli wrote about her gender identity and sexuality throughout her life. In her journals, Murray wondered if she was “one of nature’s experiments; a girl who should’ve been a boy.” Because of this struggle, she suffered breakdowns thus leaving her hospitalized throughout her twenties and thirties.

Fifteen years before Rosa Parks refuses to give up her bus seat, Pauli Murray fights for social justice. A nonbinary Black lawyer, activist, poet and priest, Murray influences both Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Thurgood Marshall. I think it’s important to recognize Murray as a historical LGBTQ figure and more broadly, recognize the contributions of LGBTQ individuals throughout history.”

“ I highly recommend this film because  it’s one of the few coming-of-age stories that centers a queer person. This movie is effortlessly realistic with no pretension or over-exaggeration. More now than ever, representation is so important. I don’t think it’s enough to simply have Black or queer characters.
