The Roanoke By Bicycle Film Festival is presented by New Belgium Brewing, Bringing four film nights in 2026 to the Grandin Theatre. Nosferatu has been The Invincible Czars' most popular silent film score since it debuted in 2015. The show is ear and eye candy for fans of horror movies from all eras.

Nosferatu is most certainly the most important horror film of the silent era and one of the first vampire movies. Directed by F. W. Murnau and released in 1922, it's an unauthorized adaptation of Bram Stoker's novel "Dracula." The film follows Thomas Hutter as he journeys to Transylvania to sell property to the eerie Count Orlok, a vampire played by Max Schreck. Orlok travels to Germany, terrorizing the village of Wisborg and preying on its inhabitants. His obsession with Thomas' wife, young Ellen Hutter, leads to a climactic showdown as she attempts to thwart his evil plans.

The film is celebrated for its atmospheric cinematography, haunting performances, and enduring influence on the horror genre. Many consider it to be the pinnacle of German Expressionist film and it has been remade by directors Werner Herzog and Robert Eggers. (Count Orlok even shows up in an episode of Spongebob Squarepants!) Fans, theaters and media have praised The Invincible Czars' soundtrack for making the century-old movie “actually scary” for modern day audiences.

Solacoustix is a music phenomenon, performing everything from Blues , R&B , country to rock - just about anything. The Freak Rangers are a Virginia-based roots-rock, Americana, and acoustic-psych band. Evolving out of the '90s Roanoke music scene, they bring together former members of the band Red Weather along with other veteran musicians for a sound they call "homespun psychedelic fun.

The Freak Rangers blend original songwriting with select covers. Their acoustic-leaning, folk-rock style is heavily leaning into jam-band and psychedelic-folk aesthetics.

Caitlin Krisko & The Broadcast deliver gritty rock and roll soaked in deep roots and blues influences, led by the commanding vocals of powerhouse frontwoman Caitlin Krisko. Since their rebrand in 2021, the band has built a fiercely loyal following across the US and UK, earning critical acclaim and major festival slots for their electrifying, emotionally charged performances. Rolling Stone calls Krisko “one of the best-kept vocal secrets of the Southeast,” and in 2024, the band took a bold creative leap with their self-produced EP Blueprints, a soulful, anthemic collection that landed playlist placements, radio support, and praise for its raw vulnerability.

Born in Alabama and baptized in the dive bars of the southeast, Paul McDonald first made noise with the Grand Magnolias, a roots-rock outfit, before catching fire in the public eye during American Idol’s 2011 run. When the bright lights blurred and the cameras turned, the man behind the voice slipped into the shadows where he did what real artists do: he lived, he lost, and he wrote. Retreating to Nashville, that holy city of reinvention, Paul stitched himself back together with worn boots, hard songs, and a new band called the Mourning Doves.

Now, the giant has stirred with the release of So Long to the Dark Side–a gospel-tinged reckoning wrapped in cosmic Americana and lit with songs that sound like they were scribbled on the edge of a breakdown and sung back from the brink. Raised on Petty, Parsons, and pain, Paul McDonald is not chasing trends; he’s conjuring something older and truer. His live performances are equal parts revival and rock séance.

In a breakthrough moment, Paul McDonald & the Mourning Doves brought the songs of So Long to the Dark Side and more to the headline stage at the 17th Annual 30A Songwriters Festival in front of a wildly enthusiastic crowd that followed him to a couple of evening performances over the weekend and established him as the 2026 Festival buzz band. The Judy Chops formed in 2008 in the Shenandoah Valley, and has become a staple of the Virginia music scene. What began as a four piece acoustic act, has evolved into a dynamic musical collective that has been winning over audiences of all shapes and sizes due to the group’s high energy live shows, and deft musicianship. The Judy Chops have been a perennial favorite at Red Wing Roots Music Festival after being named 'Best Local Roots Band' at the inaugural Red Wing back in 2013. The group would go on to win Rockn' to LOCKN' in 2018, culminating in a huge set at LOCKN' Music Festival following Keller Williams' Grateful Gospel.
