Grandin Theatre Film Lab is a robust and integrated model of experiential learning in filmmaking. The program is an extension of, or addition to, cinematic education area schools provide. Our goal is to prepare our local youth for future education, careers, and interests in the film, entertainment, and communications industries.
Our collaborative model for molding the lives of youth as they grow not only as writers, actors/actresses, filmmakers, producers, and engineers, but as contributing members of our society, knowledgeable change agents, and engaged citizens.
For a membership fee of $325 per year, teens in grades 9-12 can attend the Grandin Theatre Film Lab program to learn film production, lighting, screenwriting, storytelling, acting, sound engineering, and film industry acumen. Candidates are screened and chosen based on interest and commitment to the program and the curriculum. No previous experience is required. Scholarships are available to students who may require financial assistance.
The Grandin Campus offers our students access to film editing studio space, screening rooms, filming locations, and opportunities for supplementary experiences in both the Historic Grandin Theatre and the Grandin Co-Lab, as well as the Village at large. In addition, students will have access to our regions (and nation’s) film industry professionals who make films, teach film studies, act, edit and more! We strive to offer hands on experiential learning that connects the dots for students and professionals in the Roanoke Valley and beyond.
